Open Fun Football School in Tripoli 26-27 Jun and 3-4 July

During 26-27 June and 3-4 July 2010, an Open Fun Football School was implemented in Tripoli gathering more than 200 boys and girls. Children from Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabaneh joined each other in this school and showed no signs of the conflict that has been going on between these two areas for the last several years.

Coaches from the Popular Clubs of Shabab Al-Haddadine, Taran, Al Horriyeh, Shabab Bayt Al- Fakes, Shabab Al- Mina, Nojoom Al- Quoubbeh, Nojoom Al- Tabaneh, Nojoom Tripoli, Shabab Alawi and Al Malooli all attended the OFFS along with press from the Danish Radio, Aliwaa Newspaper, Daily Star and local TV from Tripoli.

On the last day, a workshop for parents was conducted by CCPA coordinator Bilal Yassine with the attendance of 12 parents (6 men and 6 women). For one hour and a half, the parents were taught how to become involved with their children in the newly established Popular Club and how to help the clubs and the coaches.

The children from Tripoli never experienced anything like this activity before. All the small games that were played during the four days, were new to these children. Many of these children live in very poor areas which have been badly affected by conflicts, and many of the children have been deprived a normal safe and healthy childhood environment.

Mariam Al Zayyat, a 9-year old girl who lives in Tripoli said: “I had lots of fun today; I liked the games that we played and they were new to me and especially the trampoline.I found something new to do again”.
