OFFS Al-Kufa, Najaf 8 -9 October and 15-16-17 October

Najaf, the holy city of the Shiites, is another stop on the road to have the regions of Iraq represented in the Open Fun Football Schools project.
As power structures disintegrated in the wake of the collapse of former president Saddam Hussein’s regime, Najaf became the scene of armed infighting and terror as the area’s three influential Shiite groupings fought one another for supremacy. The war separated the people of Kufa and Najaf who became enemies.

8-9 and 15-17 October CCPA Al-Salaam FC implemented an Open Fun Football School in Kufa. At the school 162 boys gathered from both Kufa and Najaf. To make this possible, volunteering coaches from Najaf and Kufa had in August come together at an Open Fun Football Schools Coach Education Seminar conducted by CCPA trained instructors in Baghdad. In here the 12 coaches from Kufa and  Najaf also met and worked with volunteers from Kirkuk, Baghdad, Basra and Suleimania – in total 92 coaches - at the first multi-cultural grassroots football seminar since the fall of the regime.

The football school was covered by Al Sabah paper, further the TV satellite channels Al Rasheed and Al Bagdadya.

Now times are changing. We wish to show that “Al Kufa and Najaf is one city!” say the voluntary instructors of the CCPA country-office in Al-Salaam Football School.
